Agrirose have been cultivating and selling rose stocks for several decades and are well known as one of Europe’s most famous rose growers.
The core of Agrirose’s gardeningcompany is growing rose plants on fields. 500,000 rose plants are propagated every year in their nursery by bud grafting.
Wholesalers, retailers and garden centres of the European Union form the target market. During sales season, the roses are transported by refrigerated trucks to ensure optimum conditions on journeys that can be up to several thousand kilometres in length. Agrirose’s activity involves the propagation of many varieties of protected roses and special care is taken uphold the heritage of a variety. They carry out estimations of the spring yield on a variety by variety basis and ensure the stability of varieties during production. 80% of the rose plants on offer are protected varieties.
A majority of the products sold are bare root plants, however there is the option to wrap the roots or put them in 3 or 5 litre containers.
The rose fields, with a total area of 50 ha, are located in the vicinity of the village of Deszk and Agrirose owns a majority of the fields. It is alluvial soil, high in organic matter with an average corn yield of 10 to 12 tons per hectare.The climate is sub-Mediterranean with hot summers and usually mild winters. It is the sunniest area of Hungary, with more than 2100 hours of sunshine, which explains why Szeged is often called ‘City of Sunshine’. The precipitation levels are low, so activities can be planned for the whole year. The area requires ample watering and sprinkler irrigation is employed using the company’s own cistern.
