Helmers Baumschulen GmbH is presenting the new Robin Hood yew tree. This special yew tree emerged as a wild seedling in northern Germany in the 1980s, in the Halsbek part of the Helmers tree nursery. Its habit is upright and columnar, but it grows very slowly. The needles are deep dark green and show an attractive fresh green color play when they shoot.
As a natural selection of the native European yew, the Robin Hood variety impresses with its very high robustness and healthy, vital growth.
The sale is supported by an attractive brand label with a bow and arrow logo, symbolizing the connection to the yew as a traditional wood for longbows. According to legend, the longbow of the legendary figure Robin Hood was made from yew wood, which explains the inspiration for the name of the yew tree Taxus baccata Robin Hood.
The Robin Hood yew tree offers a wide range of possible uses: when grown alone, it impresses with its small space requirements and remains attractive for many decades. It is ideal for elegant front gardens as well as for high-quality grave plantings, even on small urn graves.
The Robin Hood yew is also an excellent choice as an exclusive border hedge. What is particularly noteworthy is the minimal maintenance effort: it is usually sufficient to slightly shorten the top shoots once a year. No further pruning is necessary due to the natural, upright, compact growth.
