Acer Rubrum leaves are dark green in summer, turning the most vibrant red in autumn. Tiny flowers and winged seeds add additional, though subtle, interest.
Growing to a height and spread of 7 x 3.5 metres in 20 years, Acer Rubrum Blaze Maple prefers full sun and soil that is well-draining or moist well-draining.
Young twigs are yellowish-green and turn reddish-brown. In autumn, the leaves turn red. The trunk turns grey and is grooved. The brown fruit capsules, measuring app. 2.5 cm, appear following the unremarkable flowering. They are spiky, hang on long thin stalks and remain on the tree until deep into winter. An exceptionally attractive park tree in warm climates but the tree absolutely requires protection against severe frost on colder sites. ( Stock:5000 )
