Set to launch in 2024 and available on the market by 2025, the Chrysoperla carnea cocoons will broaden SAUTTER & STEPPER's product range. These cocoons mixed with buckwheat spelts in little hanging boxes can easily be introduced into various agricultural systems. Customers can choose from packages of 50 or 100 cocoons.
After about five days, adults emerge and commence mating, relying on honeydew, pollen, or nectar for sustenance. Females lay eggs within four to ten days, continuing for up to thirteen days. The larvae act as effective predators for approximately six weeks. Known globally for their pest control capabilities, they are resistant to various insecticides and remain active in various light conditions, making them suitable for diverse cultivation environments.
The cocoon stage is ideal for both conservatories and field-grown crops, and they contribute to the overall insect biodiversity of wildflower strips, which are increasingly important in the global agricultural landscape. Establishing a wildflower strip within or between greenhouses enhances the establishment of beneficial insects and supports pollinators. This method promotes biological pest control and fosters sustainable fruit and vegetable production.To effectively introduce Chrysoperla carnea, simply place boxes containing the cocoons within flower strips.
An optimal location for flower strips is along non-productive edges of greenhouses or within production rows. For a robust population of beneficial insects, early releases during the cultivation process are essential.
