The sweet temptation

The sweet temptation
Innovation

Sweet cherries are not only a treat for the palate, they are also true nutritional wonders: they contain numerous vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help to promote good health. Whether fresh from the tree, as part of desserts or in savory dishes - the possible uses are varied and creative. But as tempting as the small fruits may be, the greater the challenges for growing them in your own garden due to climatic changes, pests such as the cherry fruit fly or diseases. Here, fruit novelties with certain characteristics can be the solution to one problem or another.

Visitors will find information on advantageous fruit varieties at the Artevos stand in the form of three tempting sweet cherries: PAPILLON® 'Pilango'-s - the insensitive one, SWING® 'PISUE192'-s - the self-fertile one, 'FELICITA'-s - the large one. Here is a small foretaste:

PAPILLON® Pilango - the insensitive one
In contrast to other bicolour sweet cherries of the past, the Papillon® variety is hardly susceptible to bruising. The particularly crunchy and juicy fruits also have an excellent cherry aroma. They have a low space susceptibility and inclination to windfalls. Their long harvest window begins in cherry week five. The trees have quite strong but compact growth with very good branching. The wood and leaves are robust, making the variety ideal for the home garden.

SWING® ‘PISUE192‘-s- – THE SELF-FERTILE ONE

SWING® ‘PISUE192‘-s- – THE SELF-FERTILE ONE

The Swing® sweet cherry brings a new dynamic and enthusiasm to every home garden! The early ripening period means that the cherries are less affected by the cherry fruit fly, but that is not the only advantage of this early variety: it is also one of the few varieties that are self-fertile and therefore do not require an additional cherry tree for pollination. Its large, heart-shaped, dark red fruits (approx. 28 mm) have a deliciously sweet flavor. The juicy and attractive fruits are a delight for all the senses. The availability of trees with low-growing rootstocks makes it possible to make even small gardens shine.

From January 28 to 31, 2025, visitors to the IPM in Essen can find out about these and other fruit novelties at Artevos' stand 7D30 in hall 7.

‘FELICITA‘-s- – THE LARGE ONE

‘FELICITA‘-s- – THE LARGE ONE

‘Felicita‘ is also a self-fertile sweet cherry with large - on average approx. 30 mm in diameter - beautifully glossy dark red fruits. The flesh is firm, dark red and juicy with a very good, sweet-sour, aromatic flavour. ‘Felicita‘ ripens late, from the end of June to the beginning of July. Yields are regular and very high every year, and the variety is very resistant to classic diseases such as monilia. The trees are healthy, initially with a rather strong growth, later the growth is balanced. As ‘Felicita‘ does not require a pollinator either, this variety is space-saving in private gardens.

From January 28 to 31, 2025, visitors to the IPM in Essen can find out about these and other fruit novelties at Artevos' stand 7D30 in hall 7.

Company profile

Passion for Quality in Fruit
That's ARTEVOS .

Artevos is an association of different shareholders who have joined their forces to support the development, promotion and marketing of new, healthy fruit varieties by contributing their strengths and competences. Active for the good taste – this has been the motivation for our search for new fruit varieties for over 25 years.

For as different as they are, all our new fruit varieties have an important common feature: a new flavourful experience that meets the highest demands. Our fruit varieties come exclusively from conventional breeding work. We work intensively with famous institutions in Germany and abroad which specialize in the breeding work.

We are firmly convinced that only together we can develop valuable ideas for new varieties. By "we" we mean ARTEVOS and our partners, but also interested nurseries who want to take advantage of our new varieties and our range of products for their production success. In order that these companies / enterprises can participate in our new fruit varieties and contribute to their multiplication, we issue licences – we are currently working with more than 200 nurseries in and outside Europe.
